You know who else cared about poverty and justice? Jesus. God bless the Jesuits.

For me I think it is that jesuits don’t care about the obedience of those they help, it’s never mass for a meal. They just help. Beyond that they don’t seem to look down on those they help.

I spent time with a Jesuit priest dropping water for migrants crossing the US-Mexico border. I was an atheist but meeting him changed the way I thought about Catholicism

The Jesuits have a long history of dressing in the society. Here is a 1607 painting of Matteo Ricci with Xu Guangqi. They found Confucianism to be cultural and not religious so the Chinese could still participate in the Confucian ceremonies and rites. Clement XI banned the rites in 1704. In 1742, Benedict XIV reaffirmed the ban and forbade debate. (Pius XII issued a decree on 8 December 1939, authorizing Chinese Catholics to observe the ancestral rites and participate in Confucius-honoring ceremonies. This means the Jesuits were initially right and just too ahead of their time). For social justice, that’s been a part of the Jesuits for a long time and in fact why the society was banned in the first place. Look up the War of the Seven Reductions. I’m not saying all this that you have to agree with the Jesuits or like how a few of them come across publicly, but I’d say a few things said are either incorrect or unintentional leaving out information that goes against claims of shifts.

Traditionalists hating on the Jesuites, that is either a joke or things they misunderstand in the Catholic faith. Legalism can turn many from God and the faith.

The Jesuits are the best of the Catholics. We should be following them instead of trying to compete with evangelicals in a race to the bottom.

if Jesus lived today, he won't be rubbing elbows with the billionaires and oligarchs. he could be an environmental activist like berta celis, someone like st oscar romero, fr mujica or anyone who fights for the marginalized and oppressed, even being unalived by an oligarch or a fascist righr wing dictator

Fun fact Jesuits are common protagonists in speculative fiction because of their reputation as scientists and first contact missionaries

Is it just me or did anyone grow up believing it was the job of a priest to be a social worker but with a different tint.
