In Islam, women are not marginalized in life, but rather the heart and soul of the family and a pillar of compassion within it. God has honored them as wives, mothers, daughters, and partners in building society. Marriage in Islam is not a relationship of power, but a covenant of affection and mercy, founded on love, respect, and tranquility, as God Almighty says: “And He placed between you affection and mercy.” The marital relationship, in its essence, is mutual mercy, kind words, support, and the preservation of dignity. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) embodied this meaning in his character; he was gentle with his wives, supported his family, and said: “The best of you are those who are best to their families.” Much of what is raised about Islam and women stems from a misunderstanding of religious texts or a confusion between the religion and certain erroneous customs and practices. Islam has established justice as the foundation of the relationship and placed mercy above all else. In reality, Islam intends marriage to be a source of peace for the soul, security for the heart, and a partnership built on love and respect, not on injustice or humiliation.
