@bree_yah_brujeria: It clicked for me today after Tichina Arnold did an interview and mentioned Ari Lennox’s comments about the show #Martin and the jokes made about #Pam and I’m sorry that yall are still not being heard and validated, and for the part I played in this.
I thought he was making fun of Pam because she was the best friend but I get it. but she had the best come backs ever like she got him back she didn't take it sitting down.

This conversation is part of the reason I no longer have a best friend. The truth about how she felt about me came out in a colorism argument.

Just like with Sanford and Sons, the jokes were very normalized. Colorism was an afterthought during those times. It's good we're having this discussion

It’s apart of a lot of comedy. All the husbands in comedy, the husband’s had an issue with the wive’s friends. Think about it: In Good times James always had something to say about Wilona. In living single, Max didn’t like T.C. Carter and the list goes on. Go back and watch other comedy shows. It had nothing to do with colorism it’s just what makes the ball keep rolling in a show. As a writer, u have to have conflict & it worked like a charm!

I'm a lighter skinned woman and I remember knowing back in the day that Pam's jokes were rooted in anti-blackness. They were very specifically anti-black. I need to go watch Tichina's interview. I keep hearing about it, but I haven't watched yet.

I always thought he was anti-Black and that is why I didn’t love the show the way most people did.
