Don't forget that Salt Creek Recreation Area is also within the ancestral lands of the Klallam (Clallam) people. Specifically the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe (inhabited the region along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, including the areas west of the Elwha River) Until the Lower Elwha Klallam, along with the other Peninsula tribes, signed the Treaty of Point No Point in 1855 and 1856. And while there was no physical violence, tribes were under duress and social pressure to accept the treaty that their leaders originally didn't want to sign. >>>And this treaty has broken promises: Unfair Compensation, Inadequate Land, and Fishing Rights Denied. Pretty sad.
