What is your problem with “poverty”?? anything wrong with a developing country?

As a local, yes Phu Quoc is certainly geared towards vacationers. Da Nang or Nha Trang is definitely more lively and locals actually live there

As a Vietnamese, I believe that outward appearance doesn't necessarily reflect happiness in life. Some people live in mansions and drive luxury cars, yet they are burdened with debt and worries. Conversely, some people live in small houses, but they can sleep soundly and live peacefully every night.

2 routes for you and other tourists 1) just stay in your buble, enjoy the fun, recharge, then leave happy 2) Really go out and get to know the locals, their way of lives, study the place, critically thinking, and make judgements.
-Dont be in the middle, and being a blind fortune teller examining an elephant ( it's a Vietnamese saying you can look it up)

u dont have to feel sick, struggle pp r everywhere. Spend your money on what u think can help them, dont just leave or feel bad. May tourism be their main income

Tourism and the ripple effects support a lot of the people there. You should enjoy yourself, it's a beautiful island. Be kind and generous to the locals (and just everyone). Use your money, influence, effort to help others, rather than say that being there makes you feel sick. Comes off a bit privileged. Just an opinion from an insignificant expat here.

It was originally just a fishing village, with no five-star hotels, entertainment areas, or places like Europe.

got your point but do you think they stay there by choice? it might be their birthplaces. And what if the government takes the lands and give to the richs to do tourism, throwing the poors to some random places?

U just been to the wrong place. Go up north or south aways from the disney park syndrom and you will see true beauty and no poverty.

This is a part of real life. The disparity still exists no matter where we are

If you do research and spend money on the right places, you’re helping them! A lot of people and places thrive off of tourism. But yes, it is a very upsetting thing to see

Yes, you should leave to avoid further issues. Make sure you check the room carefully before booking next time 🤷♀️

Maybe you should create a video about homeless people and the wealth disparity in the US instead of commenting on other people’s countries?
