When I was training as an osteopath my partner was also training to be a midwife and one of their teachers gave them a piece of advice I still do now 30 years later. She said that there will be hard, terrible days that make you wonder why you do the job. To counter that you keep all the nice cards, notes, letters or photos from parents so when you have a hard day you can go through those and remember all the positives. I don't have terrible days and I don't need to physically go through the box, but I know they are there. My favourite is a Christmas card from a family and at the end it says "PS, card made by Lyra. PPS, extra love from Lyra". She's in her mid 20s now but was probably 6 when she gave me the card.

Yes! I do this with nice things people say to me at work as well. Brains tend to dwell on the hard days, so it’s such a great thing to have a stash of pick-me-ups 💕 Your folder must be so big!

My youngest is currently exploring who he is. I support him with all my heart. It angers me people who don't accept others for who they are. My ex said when I told him our son may be gay, he said no son of mine will be gay. Our daughter is lesbian. He hates it yet would point out big boobs to her. He's now no longer in our lives. He's vile and also was so nasty and a bully to our kids. We're so much happier without him. And our kids can explore themselves in comfort and openly.

I have 2 nieces that are gay. One of them their father (my brother) was extremely homophobic. About 10 years ago he said he had to tell me something and then told me his daughter was gay. I already knew that YEARS ago! I wish they had the kind of support that you offer. I remember my neice being a very sad withdrawn child. And I knew why. It took a long time but she is now happily married and is in a very good place emotionally. Keep offering your positive support! But make sure you take care of yourself too.
