Not sure I get this. The rider wearing #2 is likely the leader of that team and likely has other objectives in mind than the stage win. He put time on everyone else behind even tho he didn’t win the stage, maybe he’s hunting GC objectives.

Pretty obvious that Durbridge and OConnor didn’t had the legs, so a proper 3 v 1 with rolling attacks not possible especially with peloton that close behind. That said that “attack” by Plappy up that gradual hill was clearly a mistake, he should have tried to force the other guy to take a turn.

This happed in the TDF 2 years ago. 3 v 1 and 1 won. We do little 300-500k Strava segment sprints, very rarely does some lead pulling the entire wat, always take the wheel. Bad tactics
