I saw someone from the us saying if you take your shoes off its unsanitary cus the floors are dirty😭 THE FLOORS WOULDNT BR DIRTY IF YOU NEVER USE SHOES INSIDE also do you ever like.. clean the floors???

At least in Finland the bragging thing goes back to folktales. It was believed that there was only so much luck in the world to go around and jealousy was strong magic, used to take away someone's happiness. It was better to hide your success so nobody could steal it and the other way around, the way to get luck was to steal it from someone magically. One way to protect yourself from such evil eye, was to not take compliments ("oh this old thing" kinda way) as they were ways to steal the luck. It rooted deep into the culture

It was odd for me to take shoes off. Even uncomfortable because my feet are kind of smelly, but after living like this for some time i can't understand why would anyone choose to live otherway. My feet obviously do not smell bad anymore, and house is much more cleaner.
