@furry.friends.paw: We have an update on Slugger... This tiny puppy was found shivering relentlessly at the edge of an empty baseball field. He was sitting on a towel, and his entire body was drenched to the bone. He was being pelted with rain as the storm that recently flooded South Texas raged around him. Yet despite the dangerous weather, he refused to seek shelter. He did not move from the spot where he was left, waiting for the one who abandoned him to return. Slugger was eventually spotted by a kind stranger who immediately contacted Animal Control. He was brought to the local shelter, but it soon became clear they wouldn’t be able to give him the help he needed. Slugger was COVERED in fleas and ticks, and his little belly was filled with intestinal worms. He needed life-saving medical care, and he needed it fast. Thankfully, our team was contacted. We took Slugger in and rushed him to the vet. He received a life-saving blood transfusion, and doctors worked tirelessly to get him stable. Slugger has since begun treatments to remove the fleas and ticks. They could not all be removed manually as that would have been far too much stress for his tiny body to handle. We’re happy to say that almost all of the ticks have fallen off, but his ears are now completely scabbed from where they once were. However, his anemia has improved, which is an excellent sign. Slugger is still hospitalized, and once he is ready, he will be continuing his recovery in the care of a medical foster. This baby still has a very long road ahead.
