It doesn’t appear this has anything to do with morality (why he is no longer Nick’s defense). Considering that, I have to assume it is financial. Based on Alan’s apparent frustration, it would seem that at first, they were told there was money that Nick was entitled to, to fund said (expensive af) defense. Weeks later, I am ASSUMING, someone came out of the woodwork so to speak, and informed them ACTUALLY no, he is *not* entitled to that money because of some clause or law in CA regarding his situation, I don’t know. That is just a guess
