I don’t think I’ve ever had a narcissist in my life. I wish I could meet one so I can understand.

It is exhausting. The worst is when they are the “nice guy” who always is the victim.

I must have had a different breed of narcissists in my life because if I didn’t feed into the argument they wanted to have it would go from argument at pop rocs level to atom bomb and violence for days. They didn’t just give up and find someone else to argue with. 🤷🏻♀️

It’s funny how when you don’t get mad or you don’t feel triggered by what they say how much more frustrated and upset they get.

I was dealing with this from my children’s father. I had no idea there was a name for it, but I knew something was wrong.

I learned how to do this with my husband in 2025. Don’t react. Don’t engage. And it’s been good! I’m not perfect but I’m happy with where I’m at.

I had a therapist tell me when encountering a game of tug of war with evil, you can just drop the rope. Best advice ever. My young son loves fishing and I told him sometimes people will try to bait you into an argument, don’t catch that hook..you can just say ok and let them squirm

They know your upset, when you FINALLY work up the nerve to say something they fight you in circles and they are SO SMOOTH at it you dont even realize its happened... and then you feel upset, and mad for being completely unheard..... and then they are mad at YOU for being mad at THEM....

The recent interview with Kristie Noem was a perfect example of how the interviewer didn’t jump in the holes she was digging.

These are important tips but I’m a little fatigued by the term “narcissistic” I find this perspective more empowering, “do I feel like I’m sharing or proving” if it’s proving I stop.

What I don’t understand is that I look into it as a logical thing. I don’t start the argument and then now I’m the one who always plays the victim or is always nice. Like this thing is exactly explains what happens but in my relationship I don’t start these fights or anything so does that make me narcissistic? Also, I genuinely wanna know because I am confused and don’t want to be a narcissist

keep in mind to all the people in the comments the actual percentage of people diagnosed as a narcissist in the United States is not even estimated to surpass 6% so odds are the person in your life is not a narcissist, but most likely in avoidant of some kind which can mirror narcissism
