are you 100% sure it isn’t a vp issue? My truck had a similar issue. ended up being a bad vp

If you have your airdog plumbed to a constant key on ignition source, the vp44 is being overloaded with fuel pressure trying to start. Factory plug in runs only until pressure is made and shuts off, as soon as you crank pressure drops and the pump turns back on but there’s enough drop in feed pressure with the pump off they start fine. Try unplugging your airdog, start it and then plug it back in once it’s starts.

I’ve seen a fass system put to much pressure causing a hard start like that

Overflow valve on vp. It’s in the return line. Put a new one in and see if that fixes it.

If it cranks up, no problem the next day it should be fixed, right?

Running into the same issue on my 89. I replaced the fuel feed like and a stop having issues. Fuel pressure looks good through idle to driving. I’m assuming it was a hole in the return line all along lol

Try your return line coming off the back of head and VP. Its a steel line. Replace with stainless braided 6an hose.
