@dr.z_neurosurgery: Surgery typically moves median survival from roughly 9 months to 15 months, buying several months of life and function, not a cure. #glioblastoma #doctor #neurosurgery #Science #brain

I have Glioblastoma and I am doing the standard of care. Had the craniotomy I’m post op 6 weeks and undergoing radiation and chemo (which is in a pill form). For me it has been worth it! My surgeon told me I had less than a month to live. I was traveling a week after my surgery, I have had very minimal side effects with radiation & chemo. My quality of life has been improved with the standard of care. I’ve been given just a little bit more time to enjoy my family, friends, travel, garden, bake and thank Jesus for giving me this beautiful life! From 1 month to possibly 12-14 with a decent quality of life….. absolutely yes.

Glioblastoma patient here. I had 20 months before I have a potential recurrence. I have a second surgery plan this month. I am very thankful for extending my life and I would 100% doing surgery again.

My husband had this choice with Stage 4 glioblastoma. He chose the craniotomy and had a massive stroke during surgery. He walked into surgery a functioning adult and came out of surgery a total care patient. He lived 5 months in the hospital, a rehab center and then a nursing home, and lost his battle on January 2, 2026.

No surgery. Recovery would take 3+ months and you end up with the same time

My grandfather has glioblastoma in 2011. He had the surgery within days of diagnosis. They told the family he may have 6-9 months max, even with surgery plus chemo. He ended up living 10 more years. I’m not sure how that happened but we were very thankful.

My husband was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and given 3 months. I quit my job and after his surgery I provided 24/7 care. Changed his diet, removed sugar and he lived an additional 3 years with quality of life.

Yesterday .. I would not do the surgery as I’m very tired of life. Today .. I found out that my youngest child is pregnant so I would do the surgery to potentially meet my new grandchild.

No. I don’t want the recovery time wasting my months left. Plus, no additional bills for my husband to get stuck with.

My nephew was diagnosed with glioblastoma and had his tumor removed back in 2018. He still alive and well with no spreading of the tumor. I thought it was a death sentence when he was diagnosed, but he still healthy and happy.

Another unfortunate thing I’d consider is how much medical debt I’d be leaving my family in. I should have to think about that but I live in the US and it’s a reality. I’m also a neuro OR nurse and have been in many GBM cases and I’ve seen, with good surgical margins, patients live longer than a few extra months. It’s a lot to consider.

Not with a glioblastoma. Those extra 3-4 months are not going to be pretty. If you can’t euthanize me, just keep me comfy.

Just have to say, I had a surgery, full resection, radiation for 6 weeks, 5 days a week and oral chemo. after radiation, I have gone on 2 big trips. I have a reoccurrence that started about 9 months after surgery and am doing a trial now. I'm planning another trip at the end of March. I am 50 years old. I will not just give up. I want to live.

You’ve left out important information. Describe the expected quality of life for the 11 months vs the quality of life for the 15 months.
