@pagingdrfran: PCOS patients shouldn’t need to see several doctors to figure out they have this disease. and we as healthcare professionals need to know how to individualize care for them, which is why i’ve posted my first full length YT video, to share how you can be a better PCOS clinician 💙 #pcos #pcossupport #pcostreatment

I had gone years saying that I was having wildly irregular cycles, excessive bleeding, etc and every doctor said “yea you’re young it’s normal”. I got pregnant and on my first ultrasound it said “excessive cysts on both ovaries, consistent with PCOS, correlation is recommended”. My OB said she didn’t see it on my chart and I said that’s because no one checked despite symptoms.

This is true. I was with a provider for 10 years and did not have a diagnosis and was forced to keep my IUD when demanded it to be removed. Finally was able to get the IUD and was still feeling uncomfortable with fibroids. I went to another provider and was diagnosed in one visit with PCOS. Also, the new provider assisted me with conceiving as well when I was told I was infertile and to see a fertility specialist. Some providers just know from experience and listen to their patients. I love my OBGYN and have so much respect for him.

My sister has it and was told for YEARS that it was all in her head. When we got copies of her medical records, two physicians she saw suggested she check herself into a mental hospital. Even had a doctor state that she was an addict and was looking for pain meds.

it took 3 doctors and two years of telling them something was wrong and they kept trying to shove birth control down my throat to fix my “irregular periods”. it also took 3 different ultrasounds because my right ovary hid so bad they didn’t see it til the 3rd almost told me i just didn’t have one and was a rare case

One year all I wanted for Christmas was to stop bleeding. Over 40 days of bleeding and it still took 3 more years to get diagnosed.

I immediately recognized my daughter’s PCOS when she had hyperpigmented skin folds, a slight mustache at 14 yo, and irregular periods. Luckily, we had a great OB/GYN who listened, tested, diagnosed immediately and treated. Through her testing we also discovered my daughter has Hashimoto’s and insulin resistance.

got diagnosed with PCOS during COVID. I never wanted kids so thank God for the masks at the time. I don't know how she would react to the smile on my face.

-Me at 16 to a doctor: I’m here because I think I have PCOS. I read an article and I have been struggling with all of the symptoms (except infertility, since I obviously wasn’t trying). *lists symptoms* -Doctor: hmmm I think you may just be overweight and depressed. But I can give you a pap smear, or we can have a female doctor do it. *SEVERAL months later at OB appointment, explaining my reason for the appointment* -OBGYN: wait. He didn’t do any labs to check for PCOS?! -Me: no. He gave me a prescription for Prozac, which made me feel REALLY depressed, tested my thyroid & blood sugar, and had me fill out a food diary. (lol he told me I should stop eating granola and/or oatmeal with pb for breakfast) -OB: 😐 yeah, okay…. Well, you have a lot of the symptoms. So, as soon as we finish here, head to the lab, we are going to get some tests done. -Narrator: it was, in fact, PCOS. … However, because the OB left the practice shortly after the test, it would take another TWO years of runaround to even get the formal diagnosis, recognition, or treatment.
