People need to realize two things. 1. This big beautiful cake is for pictures and the symbolic first slice. But guests are definitely getting cake, it would be a sheet cake with same flavors as whatever the couple has in the big cake. It’s also quick and easy to slice. (Which a giant tier cake is not). And 2. These big tier cakes take time, especially with intricate details that weddings usually have. If it would be fully edible, either the bakers have to work super speed and have a giant fridge, or the whole thing would spoil and get ruined.

Hate this idea. Went to a wedding with a beautiful ‘cake’ displayed. We were served red velvet cake that was as dry as dust.

That is exactly what we did for my cake cause I wanted it upside down so she used foam to be super light and we just made a small cut for ours then had sheet cake made from the same cake in the back to be divided out to everyone it was amazing

I did this in 2011! My venue served a plated dessert as part of the dinner service… and no one likes wedding cake anyway. No one missed out!
