@drshazneenobgyn: I’m a board certified OBGYN - let’s talk -LSC ( lichen simplex chronicus) -is a chronic pruritic dermatosis defined by lichenified plaques resulting from persistent scratching. The hallmark itch-scratch cycle perpetuates the condition, where initial pruritus (often triggered by irritants such as pads, panty liners, scented products, or mechanical trauma from shaving/waxing) leads to scratching, which in turn causes skin thickening and worsens the itching.[ In the vulvar region specifically, environmental irritants are well-recognized triggers. Biopsy is not always necessary for diagnosis, particularly when the clinical presentation is typical. The diagnosis is often made clinically based on the presence of lichenification and the characteristic history of chronic scratching. However, biopsy should be considered if the diagnosis is uncertain, lesions are atypical, or there is no response to standard therapy.Breaking the itch-scratch cycle is fundamental to management. This involves removing irritants, using medium- to high-potency topical corticosteroid ointments, and applying barrier ointments like petrolatum or Aquaphor to restore the damaged skin barrier.#itch #womenshealth #viral #obgyndoctor #knowledgeispower @CeraVe @Vaseline @Cetaphil US @AquaphorUS

I use protopic for this but for the moment it doesn’t seems to help that much which is weird because I used it a couple of years ago and it really helped me with it so I don’t understand why it’s not working now

I was diagnosed by a dermatologist a few years ago, this condition is very unpleasant, I sometimes have bouts of scratching in my sleep, until I hurt myself, it seems to also happen on my legs and forearms... thank you for talking about this somewhat controversial topic

@🪿🇨🇦: I had lichen down there, it itches for years. My obgyn made a biopsy to find the type (simplex ) and after the biopsy, no more itching. During a follow-up gynecological examination, he couldn’t find the lichen anymore. He asked the nurse in the exam room to come look and told her “ in my over 30 years of practice, I never saw a patient healing from a lichen” it’s been 15 years without now 😊 🤞

Hey I’m 18 and I think I have this but on my ankles. Is that possible? I’ve had these rashes my whole life. They went away for awhile when I in year 9 but I’m in year 12 now and it’s came back a couple years ago and it wasnt gone for long. I really want to get rid of this.

Yup. I had this and it was terrible. Had to see a dermatologist for this and use a thick steroid cream.
