I’m watching so many influencers talk about “training at length” and “lengthened partials” now and it’s so hard to watch. - First and foremost, it’s simply sarcomerogenesis. You won’t be able to just continue to have serial deposition of sarcomeres bc it’s only so long that a muscle can increase in length. You’re growing from passive tension. And only noobs can grow from it bc they yet to have those adaptations. - If advanced lifters could grow from stretch mediated hypertrophy, then they’d be able to grow from passive tension alone after already having the adaptations… make it make sense. You’re not growing bc you’re training at longer lengths.. you’re growing bc you’re strength training… - SMH refers to the extra gains that you can achieve due to being able to also grow through passive tension. But since you’re not a noob and have the adaptations, there is no “extra growth”… if anything, you may be decreasing output or accruing unnecessary fatigue with forcing lengthening partials. - Then what makes it worse… 90% of the ppl talking about SMH have no clue about length to tension relationships to even know what muscle group would even benefit from it… if a muscle group doesn’t show up on the descending limb, then passive tension is meaningless (biceps and triceps for an easy example). Then let’s not get into neuromechanical matching for whether or not that target muscle group even has good leverage at length…… - SMH is insanely overrated with how far the industry is taking it rn
