I guess Whitney dancing with her baby in the hospital isn’t all that surprising anymore…

My Mormon father told me that the loss of my son was only sad because it was on Facebook (I was extremely isolated)

Even if you think the family will be reunited, it’s surely ok to be sad you won’t see them for 40+ years

After my fiancé died, I was told (this was a week after btw) that if I understood the plan of salvation I wouldn’t be crying. I was told this until I just became a zombie who masked grief and pretended to be happy

Even if you believe that you’re going to see your loved one again, you’re at the very least not going to see them for a long time. That alone is more than enough to mourn. Especially when it’s someone younger because your also mourn the fact they didn’t get to live life. I used to cry when my now husband would leave to go home when we were dating. And when I knew for a fact I would see him again🙃

regular christians believe the same thing, that families are united after death. and yet are also still allowed to grieve and miss their loved ones 😭

the weirdest part to me about this is people also grieve when theyre not going to see someone for a long time? so even with their logic its aggressively apparent emotional control

Jesus knowing that he was could resurrect the dead back to life STILL gave way to tears when Lazarus died. So there is no shame in grief nor mourning.

Interesting, because in Catholic Church you actually have to pray a lot for the deceased person, to help them make their way through purgatory (an intermediate cleansing state that is still not heaven but not hell either), one can debate that doctrine but makes sense centering and praying for the beloved one, with faith in resurrection and forgiveness of sins, but ultimately praying for them anywhere they are. You are saying LDS do not center the service towards their souls during those harsh moments then, uhmmm that seems even bit suspicious to my eye.

Sadness is a natural mechanism for recovery and moving forward. The mind and body need to rest and shed tears for a while. This has nothing to do with any faith.

I can confirm this. my husband was crying at his dad's funeral, and his uncle asked him "don't you have a testimony? if you did, you wouldn't be crying."

That teaching can be so harmful. As someone trained in psychology, that’s not how grief works. Even if you’re only losing somebody for the rest of your lifetime, that’s still a loss. Having hope and being able to celebrate can help some people, but if someone sad that doesn’t mean that they don’t have hope.
