It’s crazy to me that it’s shocking when you’re put together at work 🫠 I was a bit self conscious about it at first and then I was like no.. I deserve to feel good even if it makes other people uncomfortable!!

You are very right if caring about your appearance is motivated by you feeling good and taking steps to feel your best. But many, and I think this is the problem some of us are thinking of when saying you shouldn’t need to put so much time into your appearance, many people that hyperfocus on their appearance and spend a large portion of their time on it (whether that’s makeup, hair, clothes, even working out) do so out of what they think others would rather them look like. It’s not about making themselves feel good, and most of the time for those folks, it doesn’t even actually make them feel good, it’s about trying to convince others that they look or feel good. I really hope that makes sense because I think I’m having a hard time explaining what I’m saying. I’ve known both types, and those that put a lot of time and thought into their appearance for themselves, it’s awesome. But those that do it for others is really sad (not as in really pathetic, but it makes me sad because they are often very ashamed of themselves or self deprecating).
