@sydney.grace28: My thoughts on investing vs paying off my mortgage. I’m definitely doing both but I’m thinking about putting down a big lump towards my mortgage next month. #investingtips #investing #mortgagetips #mortgageadvice #mortgage
Hear me out: Invest the money in mostly dividend stocks. Use the monthly or quarterly dividends to put extra principal payments on your mortgage. Stocks continue to grow, but dividends also pay down the mortgage faster. You can calculate how this plays out pretty easily.

Love the paying extra play at 6.63%! Close enough to the avg return of the market, and once your largest expense is gone, you can retire sooner bc won’t need as much $ to live off of!

My advisor ran both scenarios for us and we were better off investing any extra

I paid off my mortgage & car early. Debt free by 39. Now everything is investing and saving. In hindsight, I probably should have invested more earlier, and paid less "extra" over the years, BUT you don't ever know what is best in the moment. I like your strategy! Pay some extra but also invest some extra. Feels like a win-win!

Max out your Roth IRA yearly & your 401k first. Always make sure you have an emergency fund . Then you can pay extra towards the mortgage

if the average return is 7%, I'd just split it 50/50, tackle both goals at once.

I don’t fully agree with Ramsey plan but I love the idea of investing 15% of income and throwing the rest to mortgage!

Max out 401K, IRA, HSA first. If you still have extra, then throw that at the mortgage. You are so young. Being mortgage free is a great position to be in, but not really until after 50 years old.

If your rate was 7% or higher I think it would be an easier decision to pay it off but maybe split your extra money 50/50 between pay off and investments

I’m 39 and I paid my house off at 33. I would do it again tomorrow. There’s no better peace than being debt free.

we owned a paid off house for 4 yrs. it felt the same. I felt more risk honestly. I really felt uncomfortable having all that money tied up. I might not again.

Same here! Got 300k left on my mortgage with a 6.1% interest rate. Once Emergency fund is fully funded, definitely attacking that mortgage aggressively
