THIS. Everything you say here resonates with me so much. This is the root of where my OCD originated, that still persists, and it is so hardddd

My parents have mellowed out a LOT over the years, but still to this day I can pick out my dads footsteps above anyone else’s because I can still feel the incoming storm that they used to signal.

My mom's emotions would take over the house. Didn't know that someone could just be upset and keep it between them and the person their mad at, or to deal with it on their own. I thought everyone's feelings were my responsibility even if they weren't my fault.

I'm so angry at my parents for putting me into this world only for them to treat me like this. Thank you for putting my experience into words 💞 it really helps

I don’t even remember if there were any genuine moments of connection my brain is so fried and foggy and has blocked out so much. it doesn’t feel like there were any and now everything seems so fake and performative at least from my mother

There was always a split moment when dad came home and walked through the door where we all analyzed his state and immediately corrected our behavior to suit his mood that day. Every. Single. Day.

You have an amazing ability to communicate these issues which are actually very complicated in a way which is really easy to understand. You've helped me to connect so many dots. Thank you for the work you're doing!

I’m working through this in therapy right now and I didn’t realize how much I’d suppressed and how much this affected me.

the older I get, the less I understand it. Even if I'm having a horrible day, even if my kids are being rude or whatever, theyre still the best part of my day. I'll pretend to be ok for them every time when they don't need to know my problems

Like a light switch and then it changes just as quickly back to being ok / loving like nothing happened 😩 it messes with your brain

The hardest part of being a parent is not repeating your parents mistakes…I am always trying, but I feel painfully aware of the fact that I also struggle to regulate my emotions and my kids might feel this way. I apologize and talk to them about it when I mess up, but it doesn’t change that it happened in the first place. It’s so hard to move through 💔
