@crmnallyobsessed: A jury heard opening statements Tuesday in the double murder trial of Brendan Banfield, a Virginia man accused of killing his wife and another man at his Fairfax County home in February 2023 in a plot involving the family's au pair. Prosecutor Neama Rahmani says Banfield was having an affair with the family's Brazilian au pair, Juliana Magalhaes, and wanted his wife, Christine Banfiled, out of the picture. The two allegedly concocted an elaborate scheme to make it appear Brendan killed an intruder he caught in the act of sexually assaulting and stabbing Christine in their home. The plot involved creating a fake profile under his wife's name on a fetish website to lure a man to the home for what he believed would be a fantasy roleplay involving sexual violence. Detectives said Banfield shot the man, Joseph Ryan, and stabbed his wife. Magalhaes took the stand late Tuesday to testify against Banfield. The trial is expected to last about four weeks.
