the people recommending a filter have no idea about animals, filters or anything farm related a filter would require a motor, which requires 24/7 power, filters also REALLY love to clog up all the time and with an animal dropping hay, dirt, poop etc it'll just clog up more and that's if the filter doesn't break before that. adding a filter is just yet another thing that will fail at the worst possible time and probably be a pain to fix, speaking of breaking, animals tend to find the dumbest way to break stuff so putting another thing for them to break is a bad idea also filters require cleaning all the time and replacement filter media all the time, and the replacements and maintenance intervals get much shorter with the amount of stuff it has to filter constantly. it simply isn't worth it
