@kodiakwatertaxi: Steller sea lions are some of Kodiak’s most recognizable locals 😂🧜🏻♀️ Kodiak Island is home to a local population of Steller sea lions, known for their size, social behavior, and tendency to haul out on rocky shores across Alaska’s coastline. While populations declined significantly in past decades, the eastern population has shown encouraging signs of recovery in recent years. Researchers continue to study Steller sea lions to better understand population health, food availability, environmental pressures, and threats such as marine debris and predation. Supporting that kind of work is where our research vessels come in. Platforms like Tiger Cape are built to safely transport scientists, equipment, and crews to remote study sites — helping researchers access real-world data in challenging coastal environments. #StellerSeaLions #KodiakIsland #AlaskaWildlife #MarineResearch #ResearchVessels #WorkingInAlaska
