@sacramentourbanmedia916: #ClaudetteColvin, a key yet often overlooked figure in the early civil rights movement whose arrest in 1955 challenged bus segregation in Montgomery, has died at the age of 86. Her passing was announced Tuesday by the Claudette Colvin Legacy Foundation. Ashley D. Roseboro, a representative of the organization, said Colvin died of natural causes in Texas. Colvin was just 15 years old when she was arrested—nine months before Rosa Parks’ act of defiance would capture global attention. On March 2, 1955, Colvin was riding a Montgomery city bus home from high school. At the time, seating laws required Black passengers to sit behind white riders. When the front section of the bus filled up, the driver demanded that Black passengers give up their seats. Colvin refused to comply, standing her ground despite the consequences. Reflecting on that moment years later, Colvin said in a 2021 interview, “My mindset was on freedom.”#fyp #viral
