Cold brew, but make it the dilution #ad . This cocktail was created by Jake Powell in 2022. It is a rum Old Fashioned built around the flavors of coffee and sweet plantain. Zacapa No. 23 is the anchor here, bringing a deep, sherry-like sweetness that works naturally with the coffee and banana. Jake originally freezer-batched the cocktail and measured the dilution in advance, replacing the water normally used for batching with cold brew. For the version shown here, I left the cold brew out of the build and stirred everything with cold brew ice cubes, allowing about ½ oz. to melt into the drink as it chilled. . Alternatively, add ½ oz. of cold brew to the build, chill the cocktail without ice, and pour it over large-format ice. Do not stir that version with regular ice, since the cold brew already provides the intended dilution. . Sip responsibly. Don't share with anyone under 21 years old. . 🥃 WIZARD IN BLACK 🧙‍♂️ 1½ oz. / 45 ml. Zacapa No. 23 Rum ¼ oz. / 7.5 ml. vermouth amaro ½ oz. / 15 ml. cold brew coffee, for dilution (see note above) 1 tsp. / 5 ml. banana liqueur ½ tsp. / 2.5 ml. demerara syrup 1 dash aromatic bitters 1 drop saline solution orange peel oil . METHOD add all ingredients to mixing glass / refrigerate to chill / strain into a rocks glass over large-format ice / express orange peel oil over the surface / garnish with orange twist .
