Jesus renamed Simon to Peter (which means small stone). But then Jesus said He would build His church on “this rock” — a different Greek word meaning a massive foundation. What foundation? Peter had just declared: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” That confession is the rock. The New Testament confirms this again and again: Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone Jesus is the Foundation Jesus is the Head of the Church Never once does Scripture say: “Peter is the universal leader of all Christians.” If Peter were the first Pope, the Bible would show it clearly. It doesn’t.

The church belongs to Jesus alone. It didn’t start in Rome — it started with the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem in the book of Acts
