Yep… stepmom here. I have been advocating for my bonus girl since she was 2. I’m why she got speech, why she is currently getting therapy and psych care for her ADHD, and why she has good grades in school. And yet I am constantly reminded that I’m not her real mom. It hurts every time

Hell no! If I’m a step dad because real dad ain’t around, I’m going to have a voice, the kid will be disciplined and will show respect! That’s just common courtesy! I was taught to respect my elders! No matter the title! If I’m showing up for those kids, supporting them and being a father, they will be treating me as such in return! The problem is men cave to the women who gentle patent! Kids WANT AND NEED dicipline. They need direction!

this is very hard, i had a wonderful partner who stepped in but the stress of trying to protect her from a vindictive ex wife played part in our end.

You love a child unconditionally, and that’s fine, until the child hints at possibly loving you back. Then it’s “stay in your lane” or “your just stepmom” 🥺 mine are older now, they can see me for who I am and make their own decisions on how they feel about me.

I can say is was blessed to have a great relationship with my stepdaughters from the get go! So good the younger one wanted to call me dad and the older one moved in with me after she graduated HS while I was divorcing her mom.

Step child here, and step parent. Long story short, I was 5 when my mom remarried, 9 when my Dad did. I have one child from my previous relationship and my current has 4 children. My only child was made a middle child at 16. His children where 4 up to 18. (same mom) I have learned being a step parent, what love is. I know which of my step parents loved me for love and who had Ego issues. My step children did not ask for me, I did not ask for them. I AM BLESSED FOR THEM. My job is not to expect love or respect. my job as a PARENT is to teach them love and respect. Its hard, because YOU are more vulnerable I think. you love these people that you had no idea you would and you have no control because what if one day he changes his mind, You lose 5 people you love and there is nothing you can do about it. Step parents dont get visitation. That is a whole different level of vulnerable.

My stepdaughters mom was watching tiktoks that me and my stepdaughter were making during new years eve. (shes blocked but must have made a new account) She saw how much fun we were having. That same week, my husband announced to his daughter that he was getting my initials on his wedding finger and she was so happy for us. the night she went home with her mom....her mom started harassing my husband saying that their daughter is scared to come back, feels unsafe and that she's getting CPS involved. 😔 My husband has tried calling his daughter and the mom answers knowing very well he's calling to talk their daughter. And finally he was able to get ahold of his daughter last night. Daughter had to sit next to mom during their phone call. It's so sad

my husband is my son's step dad. he is the dad that stepped up. he is allowed to be a parent to my son because he is helping raise him. my son has so much respect for my husband he wants to change his last name to his. it's sad some people set boundaries like that.
