French scientist Pascal Cotte used a "Layer Amplification Method" (LAM) with reflective light technology to analyze the painting's layers. He claimed to have found evidence of an earlier portrait underneath the current one, depicting a different woman who was looking off to the side and lacked the famous smile. Cotte suggests this earlier image is the real Lisa Gherardini (the traditional subject), and the final Mona Lisa is an overpainted, idealized version. What are your thoughts on this?

To me Art is largely about aspiration. To see what we can be and the Mona Lisa for me represents not so much the painting itself, but how Art affects us and collectively for a variety of reasons, it has become a symbol of greatness.

I stayed at a hotel in Florence. There was a brass plaque on the door of my room which read, in Italian, that this was the room that the thief had hidden the painting before turning it over to the Uffizi Gallery.

There has not been 5 centuries of fascination of this painting. It became famous after it was stolen in the early 1990. Before that it was just one of many renaissance paintings.

Nope. Much overrated and many many many other of da Vinci's paintings stand higher than this. Because we think it's wonderful now doesn't make it wonderful it makes it a product of publicity and propaganda. Love your videos keep up the good work.

I think no other painter loved his creation as much as Leonardo! It is the myth of Pygmalion brought to life! I don' t like the idea that it is famous because of the theft, although it may be some truth in it!

I think the hype is appropriate! She is iconic. There is evidence of another portrait under the layers! Also, the light and shadows are stunning. I was surprised by how small the painting is in real life!

I remember entering the room and surprised for its small size 😂 lovely to see, but with those colossal Jacques-Louis David nearby I was taken. I think the Louvre will put the painting in a exclusive room
