@byyoursideoutfitters: EVERYTHING YOU KNEW ABOUT THE HUDSON IS WRONG 🌊🚫 If you live in NYC or the Hudson Valley, you need to know this: The Hudson isn’t technically a river—it’s a tidal estuary. Because it’s at sea level, the Atlantic Ocean pushes saltwater all the way up to Troy (over 150 miles inland!). That means twice a day, the water actually flows BACKWARDS (North) with the tide. Next time you’re looking at the water, check the direction. You might be watching the ocean push its way upstate. 🤯 #HudsonRiver #NYC #NewYork #Geography #HiddenNY
This is partly correct. The lower third is a tidal estuary. The top 2/3 is indeed a river.

Yes, I remember from grade school...Henry Hudson sailed up it and because the water was salty he thought he had found the passage to India. When he finally hit fresh water, he was extremely disappointed.

The World Trade Center used the water for the AC. Until the salt rotted out the pipes and they had to be replaced.

Correction: the salt line usually sits around Newburgh and is fresh, though still has a tide, up to the Federal Dam in Troy. In times of drought the salt line can push north but never as far as the dam.
