90% of the people I know have been laid off in the past 5 years. All degree holders, all mid to upper management. All struggling to find new jobs. I have never seen anything like this.

55k jobs cut for AI is terrifying when you remember that we're at the point of time where AI is so new that it's not even in it's infancy, it's a 6 hour old newborn in the grand scheme of things and AI is the worst it will ever be today, and it will only get better each and every day.

Part of it is we are just flushing all of the covid money out of the system, they pumped a bunch of money in between 2020 and 2025 to keep things looking decent, but that money is leaving the system and not being replaced combined with the fact that inflation happened and it's all hitting at the same time

People are the most expensive parts of business, AI is basically free by comparison. When the Wendy’s menu is an AI ordering system, when every call I need to make is an AI, and when they catch the writers of Stranger Things using AI for writing… it’s kind of hard to argue it’s not AI.

I've long held the belief that the corporation will be the demise of democracy and capitalism. It's just not sustainable, you can't forever raise prices and profits while pushing down people's earning potential. It's bound to collapse.

AI isn't the reason for layoffs, but tech bro CEOs have not been quiet about their desire to replace their entire staff with AI. and unfortunately many of my less talented peers in the software engineering industry have glommed onto LLM driven development and are introducing massive problems into production on a daily basis in order to please the CEOs. Once the AI bubble bursts this year, we'll see a lot of this correcting, but we'll also see the govt take over all these data centers for surveillance purposes.
