@jonjon.jpeg: When the safe option is inconvenient, you incentivize risky behavior. And it’s the least resourced who are forced to take the biggest risks, while those facing only modest inconvenience often oppose even the smallest safety changes. The typical pedestrian or cyclist who dies isn’t a Lycra-clad road warrior. They’re usually someone with fewer options, forced to take risks just to get by. And one day, that risk doesn’t work out. #pedestriansafety #pedestrian #accessibility #carculture
I live 3 minutes from a coffee shop and can’t safely walk there. I hate it here

people who are "anti-15 minute city" complain about restricted movement dont realize that their town is most likely currently limiting their movement. cant walk to work, cant walk to the store, take the kids on a walk? nope gotta DRIVE first to the park then drive back home

In the “small town” I lived in, I couldn’t even take my kid on a proper walk to the park without driving a few blocks first. There was no safe way to navigate across a busy highway with a stroller, no sidewalks or shortcuts through the woods available. On the old side of town, everything was still walkable, it’s just that the town never updated infrastructure beyond widening the highway and adding more condominiums and housing developments 😔

I live in what I consider a walkable neighborhood and yet the sidewalks are so uneven and cracked that ECV users have to ride in the streets to get anywhere. It’s everywhere when you start looking.

The San Francisco Chronicle obtained data from the Transportation Injury Mapping System at UC Berkeley to build an interactive data-driven map. It reveals the most dangerous streets and intersections in California, where hundreds of pedestrians and bicyclists are killed each year.
