@jeanne_retired: Replying to @Blue ocean 🌊 short answer is no, long answer is yes! It all depends on what rate of return and assumptions you use for inflation, planning age, spend growth etc.. it’s more of art than science. But know that I’m not a financial advisor and this is not advice. #retirement #retired #retirementplanning
All things the same, would you have made the same decision if you were single?

I needed to hear this. Just finished my annual financial planning…I’m 35 and FA estimated I needed to have $3.9 to retire at 65….about $9.5 total portfolio when adjusted to inflation. I’m pretty sure he saw the shock on my face

I retired at 54 in ’19, I worked in the same industry in Boston. My thing now (and I probably should have thought of this earlier) is figuring which account to withdraw funds, IRA, Roth or investments. Need to think about taxes!

we started a staggered retirement. I started a part time job at 56 that actually gives me a pension. I like it a lot so I'm not in a hurry for full retirement. my wife scaled her business back to only 3 hours a day 4 days a week with summers off. when we start drawing money out of our 401k this is our plan. we will look back to the year before. if our account made 50k then we can take out 50k. if we only use 40k the rest goes into a bucket to use when the market is down.

Why are you in equities still?

This was super helpful. I think a key point was not withdrawing more than you are earning especially when market is tanking. It could be very difficult to make that money back.

Can you recommend free modeling websites or templates?

I retired one year ago at age 58. And you’re right, there are so many variables that even using good modeling it still feels like a crapshoot. Thankfully, my wife and I have a solid nest egg.

Love this kind of content! I had difficulty even with the budget. Gave myself grace my first year on how much I spent. Now have a better idea. More in travel 😁

I'm finally making the leap to spending more. It's been a hard mindset to get into, even though all the models show us being more than OK.

I actually underestimated how much we need. But we still have a high schooler. I’ve started to consult to make up the gap.

It’s funny we all worry about money, but if you do not make that your priority, then you can just enjoy living. I’ve had enough money to retire five years ago didn’t care.

nice video. retired 18 months ago and also built my own tool. I think I will use variable returns putting in 3% for several years a decade and average for other years. I have ok MC Sim results but this allows me to have one more degree of freedom.
thanks for sharing. love your content!

I’m an advisor and do this for clients everyday, love hearing your perspective! So true, rarely anyone’s plan sticks for their entire retirement. Most for the better, some for the worst

She doesn’t totally answer the question but she does explain a lot about market variables but I would assume she has enough income going into year 5 of her retirement.

Interesting, our guru ran through the scenarios and we are in 99% range for success. In the green lol, maybe I should spend some money while I’m young-ish.
