Recovered Midwest Catholic here, I was raised that we weren’t supposed to evangelize. That wasn’t our job, our job was to live the faith, and share if it was asked or whatever, not hide it. Evangelizing has always given me the ick. Anyone talking about their “testimony” creeps me out.

I definitely remember hearing homilies and gospel/scripture passages along the lines of "don't advertise your good deeds and show off how pious you are, just do them quietly"

As a former catholic I remember being taught that/told they will know that we are christian by our love. That the more we put into helping others the more others would know god. I even went to catholic school and every semester we had service hours we had to do our in the community. I tend to go to retirement homes and visit with the elderly. I loved it and it became a passion of mine. But telling people that I was catholic was only done when asked or if needed for the story

I’ve been going to church classes (for my quince which is coming up!!) and I’ve been taught that you can’t get into heaven on prayer alone you HAVE to do more than that. I can’t get confirmed till I have at least 40 HOURS of community service

Cultural Midwest Catholic. I no longer practice or identify. Where I grew up small and cold and there wasn't that much to do so the church was an absolute cornerstone in the community. Share parts of yourself, but just do it and don't talk about it. More than 25 years later, I've been told I give off major Catholic vibes.

I was taught that evangelizing without living the life was hypocritical & I’m yet to become a saint, so I’ll focus on me before I try to convert anyone. & I say “culturally catholic” 😂

Me, raised cradle Catholic adjacent, got a laugh out of this because none of my non-catholic friends realized I was Catholic until I asked if they wanted updates about the papal conclave. We'd all been friends for like 2+ years by this point and they were like, "You're Catholic? Wait, actually that makes a lot of sense..." Coincidentally when we meet up at conventions I'm also the friend group mom 🤣

Agreed. I was raised Catholic. Stopped associating as such in my teens. But I still live by "you do what you can, when you can, where you can."

Stefan gets adorably annoyed when I tell him his Catholicism is showing. he hasn't been to church in decades outside of funerals, but when called the pope Pope Bob he was very quick to correct me and say "Pope LEO"😂

I am a Catholic convert, but unless if I know someone (in real life as my social media is flooded with pictures of churches), I may mention church or something like that in things I have done that day/week/etc but not mention a particular church.

As the oldest daughter in a Catholic family who’s a Virgo…I don’t know how NOT to organize and help. My friends litterally call me the baby whisperer. When I go to a party and there’s a newborn, that is now my newborn for the day. Parents go hang out, eat and drink. I got the baby. Where’s the diaper bag?

I’m a cradle catholic and my daughter’s only sacrament is baptism, but she attends catholic high school. They are required to do service hours every semester as a basic part of the theology curriculum and cannot earn higher than a D- is they don’t get them done. Corporal and spiritual works of mercy at the center of it.

I remember them saying "don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing" or whatever it was that's how I remember it I haven't been to mass in 8 years lol. but I took that to mean we live our religion we don't advertise it.

Im an atheist that can identify as culturally catholic. I don't believe or follow Catholicism in any way but my family is so its still around me. If my 81 year old grandma asks me to go to church with her i'm going or if someone were to gift me a rosary or a Virgin Mary necklace ill wear it. Lol ironically im even on a list to be a godmother to some future nieces and nephews 😅
