🌉 :
In the beginning of maybe 6th grade, I noticed this girl who was sitting at an empty lunch table, eating alone. i’d seen her around since 5th grade, but i’d never really noticed her until then, since she spoke little english and took different classes. i invited her to come sit with my friend group that day, and she sat with us for the rest of middle school. every time i saw her i’d smile or say hi, and i still do to this day. Later in middle school, in 7th grade, there was a new girl in my gym class. she had to sit out because she didn’t have the right shoes or something, so i made up an excuse to sit out with her so she wasn’t alone. i talked to her for that entire period, and now she’s one of my closest friends. my middle school was also a predominantly white school, and my friend group was pretty diverse (the photographer always made sure to take a picture of us for the yearbook if you know what i mean). anyways, there was a new apartment complex built, and we got an influx of new students (none of which were white). my friend group always welcomed those new kids into our lunch table when they first came to school and didn’t know anyone, and they’d leave once they found a place they fit in 🥹🥹 it was so beautiful to watch
