@alixandrakupcik: Today is Faye Dunaway’s 85th birthday. There was a period of my life when her monologue in Network was my go to anytime someone asked for a contemporary audition piece. Especially in the theatre world, back when that was the thing everyone wanted. I knew it inside out. I loved how sharp it was. How direct it felt. You couldn’t half do it. You either committed or it didn’t work, and that was always the appeal for me. She won the Academy Award for this role, which always made sense to me. I never felt like she was trying to impress anyone. She just fully inhabited the role, and I loved her for it. Chinatown was the other side of her for me. Whenever I watch it, I’m struck by how much she holds back and how powerful that choice is. It doesn’t hurt that it’s truly one of the greatest films in American cinema. Happy birthday to a true movie star who raised the bar for all actors.💫🎬
