@sacramentourbanmedia916: An 11-year-old boy with autism in Virginia repeatedly cried out for his mother while being isolated in what a lawsuit describes as a “makeshift classroom prison,” ultimately suffering fatal injuries, according to court filings. The child, #JoshuaSikes, was a student at Pembroke Elementary School when the incident occurred in October 2024. A lawsuit filed by his mother, Julie Xirau, against Southeastern Cooperative Educational Programs (SECEP) alleges that Joshua was confined and secluded under the guise of calming him, despite becoming increasingly distressed. The legal complaint was obtained by Law&Crime. During the confinement, Joshua allegedly pleaded, “I want my mommy” and “I miss my mommy,” while staff kept him isolated in the improvised enclosure, the lawsuit states. His mother says Joshua also repeated phrases such as “No more angry bear” and “I’m calm bear,” which she claims reflected his attempt to communicate fear and compliance using limited verbal skills. According to the complaint, while Joshua was restrained and secluded, he lay on the floor, kicked, and repeatedly struck his head against the ground. The lawsuit alleges that staff members observed this behavior for hours without intervening or providing medical assistance. The filing further claims that around 2 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2024, SECEP employees contacted Joshua’s mother and told her he was misbehaving and needed to be picked up. The lawsuit alleges this call was made to document behavior issues rather than to address Joshua’s worsening condition. Trusting the information provided by school staff, Julie Xirau reportedly told her son that he would not be allowed to go trick-or-treating that evening as a consequence. The complaint says this news deeply upset Joshua, who was unable to explain the alleged abuse or the injuries he had already suffered due to his limited ability to communicate. Xirau states she was never informed that her son had been hurt while secluded. The lawsuit describes the “classroom prison” as an enclosure assembled from bookcases and shelving units, secured with heavy-duty straps designed to restrict children’s movement. Joshua later died from injuries allegedly sustained during the incident, according to the lawsuit.#fyp #viral
