Decision fatigue is one of the quiet weights of adulthood. Every day demands another choice. Which road should we take? Which bill should be paid first? Which employee should be hired? Which risk should be accepted? Which child needs more attention today? Which dream must wait another year? A man can become exhausted long before his body grows tired. Perhaps that is why we love arriving more than travelling. We love checking into the hotel where the bed has already been made. We love walking into the restaurant where someone has already decided the menu, bought the ingredients, lit the fire, prepared the meal and washed the vegetables before we ever arrived. We enjoy the safari because someone else has mapped the route, checked the vehicle, fuelled it, secured the permits and studied the weather. We admire the conference whose chairs are perfectly aligned without ever seeing the people who arrived before dawn to arrange them. We love finding a place already prepared for us. There is something deeply comforting about stepping into order that someone else quietly created. Yet we rarely pause to ask the question that ought to accompany every comfort: Who carried the burden before I arrived? Who made the difficult decisions so mine could be fewer? Who lay awake wondering whether this plan would work, while I slept peacefully, trusting that everything would somehow be ready? Every prepared place has an unseen history. Behind every smooth experience is usually someone who carried confusion so another person could enjoy clarity. Someone wrestled with suppliers so families could simply sit and eat. Someone negotiated, planned, failed, recalculated and worried so that others would only experience the finished work. That is why leadership is often invisible. The higher a man climbs, the less his work resembles labour with his hands and the more it becomes labour with his mind. He carries possibilities that others never have to consider. He absorbs uncertainty before it reaches those entrusted to him. He makes decisions knowing that whichever path he chooses, someone may still question it. This is a loneliness few people applaud because they never see it. The best leaders make difficult decisions disappear. The best fathers make provision appear ordinary. The best mothers somehow make a home feel effortless. The best organisers make complexity feel simple. Success often hides the struggle that produced it.
