@tom.fitzgerald13: How devastating was the English longbow and how strong would you have to be to use one? Most of the bows we’ve recovered, especially from the Mary Rose, sit somewhere between 100 and 160 pounds draw weight. That’s not “hard.” That’s a lifetime of conditioning. These men trained from childhood and laws literally forced them to practice on Sundays. And it wasn’t just a battlefield tool either. Kings like Richard II and later Henry V didn’t only rely on knights. Longbowmen were common men, paid wages, loyal to the crown, and terrifying when organised. Everyone knew what they could do. They were loosing six to ten arrows a minute, hour after hour, in mud, rain, and exhaustion. Although they would still have had breaks. So That isn’t brute strength alone. That’s pain tolerance, repetition, and discipline stacked on top of each other for decades. Misconception in all movies:
swords are heavy and require strength, but anyone can use a bow.
While in reality is the other way around

Actually the Mary Rose bows were between 180-200lbs I use a compound easier to learn and build strength.

They were welsh ! the nick name for darts is called arrows because archers used to throw their arrows at barrels to practice do your research.

As an archery coach, the average modern person struggles on even 20lbs. I like to give people a go on my 45lbs and the look on their faces when they learn that’s not even half of what these longbowmen used to pull is priceless

To train a good longbow man, you start with his grandad.

My first bow was only 20lbs and my everyday one is still only 50lbs. I've tried a 110lbs replica war bow and I was pathetic, couldn't even reach the end of my (quite small) garden 😂🤣😂

I believe the bow and arrow is making somewhat of a comeback as a result of the recent political situation in the UK?
