@lilmiss_kira: My take on them is that Revy was the first person Rock tried to "save". That failure became the starting point of what he later called his "hobby" (trying to help and save people who have already been consumed by the darkness Revy's been consumed by) Over time that hobby stopped being about compassion and became something self-serving, a way for Rock to hold onto his old identity and gain control of a world that stripped him from it. Although Rock genuinely cares for Revy and values their friendship Revy slowly became a part of the game. Rock learned to rely on her when he needed her and he used her emotional attachment to get her to do as he wanted (as we see during the shower scene in RBT) As for Revy Rock represents something impossible in Roanapur. She needs him to be that normal good man she views him as because if he isn't then she has nothing left to hope for. I believe despite her claiming to love her violent life she is looking for a physical and mental out and she saw that in Rock until her conversation with Fabiola woke her up. At the same time she's not completely selfish. In the Japan arc she's willing to let him go if he reunites with his family. But she also knows her place in his life. She realized she could never be normal (Balalaika had reminded her) so she told Rock she's his gun, deciding to just go along with his game instead of continuing to convince him to go home. In RBT, that begins to hurt. After the shower scene, she says, "It's not fair." she's beginning to realize that she gives everything and receives nothing emotional in return or at least not what she wants from him. That truth fully hits her when she talks with Fabiola. And I'm not saying Rock's completely manipulative. He does care for Revy, and he values their friendship (he hung the Hawaiian shirt she got him up on his wall, and he spends most of his time with her, their comfortable with eachother in ways "regular" coworkers wouldnt be.) But overall, I believe Revy feels more romantic feelings and attachment, and Rock feels more friendship and partnership. Sorry, that was a long rant. I always felt Rock and Revy are inverses. Revy is being touched by the hope of Rock being an innocent and kind person while Rock is being touched by the corruption and darkness of the world he now lives. Both grow to immensely care for one another, even developing romantic feelings and gladly making sacrifices, but sadly due to their own chaotic lives and personalities they struggle to express it much. Revy is an active killer who border between merciless/cruel and hope/compassion. Rock is an abandoned business man who borders between keeping his humanity/heart and getting corrupted/enticed by corruption.

I don’t really agree, I think rock does have romantic feels it’s just he keeps it all pushed down. He’s constantly being teased and it’s getting on his nerves, it’s been a while since I read the manga but with people like the CIA agent, Revy and that one girl who had that full arc around her. Honestly, in my opinion, I don’t have hope for the new season because from what I’ve seen the original voice actor who played Revy does not want to jump into the role again in the new season because she’s gotten backlash from playing as a Chinese woman in the previous three seasons of Black Lagoon so they may put somebody else as the new voice of Revy on top of the fact nowadays people are so offended by everything and we all know a black lagoon had tons of violence unfriendly language so to speak language and racism so who knows what they’ll do, but my hope is kind of dwindling when I read that news because when I first ran across it, the main thing I liked about it was their relationship that was it well that and the ton of guns and the funny racist remarks but still, we’ll have to see what they do
