My 9 month old won’t open his mouth to eat or drink his milk without something to watch! He needs something to distract him then he will drink and eat. Only time I give him the screen but don’t want to keep doing this . Have tried to cut down as much as I can but he screams and refuses to eat or drink without it😭😖

I’m all for no screens, but there was a point I never had the tv on and then when we did have the tv on if my parter was watching something for example then my 7 month old wouldn’t take his eyes off it. Now I do have the tv on just as background noise really so I don’t go insane being alone all day and I’ve found my son very very rarely looks up to watch which to me is better as he’s not so drawn to anymore!

Do you have any tips to completely remove it? I find mornings really hard with my 8 month old twins and 2 (almost 3) year old and the TV helps me get breakfast & my sleep deprived self awake. I really want it to stop as it’s the only time she watches tv and don’t really want the habit there but honestly I’m not sure how to do it. Also, any tips for getting the grandparents on board with not watching tv with them 😩😩

I’m a teacher and I don’t think some screen time is bad at all the issue is some parents just let their child sit and watch tv for hours on end or worse still the iPad rather than reading to their child and talking to them. I think there’s more to it than just screen time

Any tips on managing this when visiting friends/family? What if they already have the TV on when you arrive?

What do you think about parents watching TV in the background? Do you think that counts? My baby literally barely pays attention to it at all, if I do find that he starts to watch it, I'll switch it off. I tend to like having something to watch in the background, especially when he's independently playing and I want some me time

I always knew that I didn’t want to use screens with my baby but just watching you has definitely inspired me to take it longer than 2 years old so thank you!

I'm AuDHD with PTSD and struggle without having the TV on in the background to help make me feel grounded. We often have things like Bluey on and play or read at the same time. I cant help but feel like I'm doing a disservice to my little girl. Shes 18 months only and still doesnt say much. I feel so guilty and feel like its my fault. All we do is read, play, use flashcards etc. I just feel guilty and I dont know what to do 😭

Would love to see what toys you recommend for babies from newborn-6 months. I’m expecting my first in Feb & have no idea what toys to get apart from a baby gym & some black & white flash cards… 🤍

How does our own phone use affect them? Not to entertain them but just our daily use of them to keep in touch and socialise with friends and family?

with books a good tip is to go to the library - bit like a toy rotation it gives the novelty!

These are super helpful thanks. I’m interested though, my 18mo is definitely a bit like me and can’t focus on one thing for very long. I’ve done toy rotation and find that she won’t play with it for very long. Is that an age thing or a personality thing?

What age should you stop watching your own tv due to the babies awareness. My baby is 13 weeks and he’s started kind of glancing at the tv if it’s on so I’m not sure whether it shouldn’t be on

Love this. With the toy rotation, what do you do if they ask where their toy is? Or do you leave the favourites out and rotate the others? I have a 4.5 month old so this will be necessary for me soon!
