Satan is called a murderer because he introduced sin, which brought death into the human story. He is depicted as one who destroys, deceives, and devours, but the Bible does not record him physically killing anyone. Instead, his power lies in leading people into rebellion against God, which results in death and separation from life. See the scripts John 8:44 — Jesus says of the devil: “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.” This points to Satan’s role in bringing death into the world through deception, beginning with Adam and Eve.
Genesis 3 — By deceiving Eve, Satan (in the form of the serpent) led humanity into sin, which brought death into creation (Romans 5:12).
Job 1–2 — Satan afflicts Job, causing destruction and death to his livestock, servants, and children — but only with God’s permission. The text makes clear that Satan instigates suffering, though God sets the limits.
1 Peter 5:8 — “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” This describes his destructive intent, though not a direct act of killing.
Revelation 12:9–10 — Satan is cast down as “the accuser of our brothers and sisters,” showing his role in spiritual ruin rather than physical slaying.
