@101beforeone: Replying to @Megan Evans you can start with purées but it’s very important to move past them and serve baby finger foods by 8-10 months old to ensure they meet milestones. At age 1, primary nutrition changes to solid food. #babyledweaning #101beforeone #6monthold
baby led weaning helps babies not choke! Babies gag way before they need to and often do because they are getting use to thickness and texture, but its normal. They will learn so much with mashed banana, potato, avocado. when they do well with mashes you can step it up with scrambled egg, toast strips, squashed blueberries. start with puree if you need to, but solids doesn't mean it cannot be soft/easy to swallow

Agree but also, don’t you guys have a video talking about starting with purées or mashes if baby doesn’t know how to fully sit on their own yet?

My baby is 8.5months and isn’t showing any interest in food. I consistently offer foods like avocado, peanut butter, banana, eggs, etc. twice daily. She doesn’t try to put it in her mouth and when I put it in her mouth, she doesn’t try to swallow, she tries to work it OUT of her mouth. She ALWAYS gags on it. Please send help🆘

I give my baby purées because that’s what WIC provides me with. I don’t want things to go to waste and the benefits don’t roll over

Mom of 3. I agree. First child, I made a few purées but quickly did blw. Last two children ate what we ate, in an appropriate way.

We’re only doing purées so he knows to eat at the table when we eat. I don’t care if he eats them or not. He will definitely move on to bigger food when ready. We’re practicing being at the table and watching mom and dad eat and have conversations at dinner.

I just feed my baby whatever I’m eating. But lucky for him I eat yogurt, cottage cheese, and mashed sweet potato every day so neither one of us are choking anytime soon lol 😅

I couldn’t deal with the gagging. Purées were so easy and now at 4 years old has no issues eating.

Ours started by snatching food out of our hands and off plates at 5 months and we were like "ok coordination". Now at 8 months she likes to dip whatever she has in purees like it's fries in ketchup.

My mom has been a pediatrician for 30+ years and was so hesitant when we started BLW. She was AMAZED at our 6 mo old’s hand eye coordination and palmar grasp development feeding himself. I made her a believer!

Even when I give my baby purées or oatmeal I still give her a spoon. Sometimes she’ll let me give her a few bites but most of the time she just wants to do it herself!

I feel like it’s more a choking risk for babies to only have purées and never learn how to properly eat. I’m so thankful we started with BLW

We didn’t use any with my son and it worked out. We just started with soft foods and worked our way up- no purées needed when things like refried beans already exist lol

Weve been doing blw and purées, my son loves purées but also goes hard for finger foods. He’s not great with a spoon but those fingers he’s adapt at! 🤣

similar to this: doctors started pushing the potty training age later due to lobbying from disposable diaper companies. before disposable diapers were common, people typically started potty training much earlier

This has been a special interest of mine lately and I’ve read that before commercial jarred purées, people were feeding their babies congees, porridge, and oatmeal
