You’re basically already doing all the work of a self employed technician for the dealer and the customers already know you and call you first. Why not take all that you’re doing and go independent so the dealer isn’t taking their cut of your pay for you doing all the work? Just my .02

I’ve been a a Deere field tech for 20 years and have been operating exactly like you are for probably 7 or 8 years. I’m glad to see other dealers let their top field techs do it too. The independence is great plus it’s the most efficient way to get the customer fixed up in a timely fashion

It’s great that they allow it. When you get a great tech you would rather call them because they know what you’re dealing with.

You must bring in plenty of work for them to let you go around the service manager 🤣

Do you deal with the invoicing/payment as well? Or does that go thru the service dept?

I worked for Deere as a field technician for thirty three years and my regular customers would always call me directly. It worked pretty good like you said I could question them and have a pretty good idea of what was going on.

The company is work for, as a field tech we are our own service advisors to a degree. Customers do ring our branch to book in some times but we have a bunch of our own customers that ring us techs directly also.

I'm a field tech, been for 15 years. Most customers call me directly for work or diag help. Advisors push me some work but most times I get a single job and ends with 4 by the time I'm out of the customer's lot. I take infos, add segments on w/o, order parts, create quotes, if work is too involved it get sent to the shop. I wouldn't be able to get back in a shop. I love the freedom of the road service
