they have so many fees and if you make over a certain amount in gross income you CAN NOT opt out of offsite ads. so if someone buys from the etsy ad they make you run. you pay even more. I was losing money when people bought with offsite ads. I closed my shop.

You have valid points but I also want to say... If that $60-70 mug was hand made, it's well worth that. Not only is every aspect of pottery expensive, but it can easily take numerous actual hands-on hours to make from start to finish, along with literally 3-4+ weeks of sitting there drying enough that it won't explode in the kiln.

Ive been on Etsy since 2010 and lived with the highs and the lows. Every time they would change algorithm sells would drop. I still love Etsy buyers!!! I have the sweetest customers. Wishing you the best! ❤️

My average jewelry sale on Etsy is around $60. But it’s production stuff. I save all the handmade for in person shows.

I had to leave Etsy years and years ago because when they started charging all the fees, it just wasn't worth my time to try and get sales.

Also for the low low cost of $750 a month Etsy will push your listings on the ads. 😂😂😂 It’s a newish ploy they have. I saw a video from one of those print on demand t shirt jockeys doing a $150 A DAY ad spend.

perceived value is BIG because people are so used to mass produced prices and makers cant compete with that. The time and skill it takes us to produce something plus supply costs , transaction fees , shipping ( since Etsy encourages free shipping) and then set aside some of your profit for taxes your lucky to end up with half of what you actually charge. All that factors into price

I definitely prefer to just use regular square invoicing/website and work out of my personal group. I even shut down my TikTok shop stuff cause it was just too much. I can’t sit on live all day here 😭

Etsy is unfortunate these days. They play the game because they have the built in market. But it's insane how they won't even show listings unless the wording is perfect, the title has way too many descriptors perfectly placed, and then they want more money to be bribed into show it to more people. It's so stupid.
