Satin spar (not selenite) doesn’t have fiber optic qualities. This is ulexite. You’re correct on how it is structured and how it works. It was just mislabeled at the crystal shop, which is very common. I see it all the time.

This is actually ulexite. Ulexite is a borate mineral (sodium calcium borate), and selenite is a variety of gypsum, specifically calcium sulfate. They look incredibly similar, but definitely are *not* the same.

This is a “Pepper’s ghost” reflection effect, not a magical hologram created from a rock. Please see my pinned post with the eyeball in a snow globe for a demo about “Pepper’s ghost” and how I use it in my art. Also, the consensus is that it’s Satin Spar and not Selenite. They are often confused and mislabeled. Carry on.
