This happened to me once on vacation. The trained pulled up and it was sooo full, I thought, “I guess we’re taking the next one, there is no more room for anyone else 😯”… but the people ahead and behind me started getting on, so I did too. They pushed us in and somehow pulled the doors shut and it was a very tight ride 😂😭

tbh, our trains (which are mostly composed of the retired JR East trains) also jam packed during rush hour. probably as packed as Japanese train 😅 i always avoid rush hour if i have to use train

Outside of the Yamanote ring, rush hour also depends on direction. So in the morning trains outbound from Tokyo are not so crowded. In the evening trains inbound are not so crowded.
