NOTICE: all the movement this baby can do is rock back and forth. She is surrounded by toys but can barely reach any of them. Anytime you can promote more dynamic movement patterns, the better off your baby will be for building strength and balance throughout their body, moving through milestones with better coordination and efficiency, and integrating reflexes. Babies are meant to move and explore and nothing kills that faster than straight leg sitting. Instead, help them into RING SITTING (some call this circle or butterfly sitting). Baby’s knees should be bent & fall out to the sides with the bottoms of their feet facing each other (like they’re making a loose ⭕️ with their legs). You can manually put them in this position and may even have to hold the heels of their feet together to help them maintain this if they’re not used to it yet. Support at the hips rather than the trunk and let them wobble a little as they reach for toys in all directions! In ring sitting, your baby can: ✨ Tip forward to grab toys without falling back ✨ Twist their trunk and reach to the sides ✨ Shift weight from hip to hip (the foundation for crawling & walking) ✨ Build core strength without compensating ✨ Explore their environment with BOTH hands free P.S. a baby who can independently sit with straight legs but falls over easily in ring sitting is technically NOT an “independent sitter” and may not be ready for solid foods yet #babydevelopment #sittingbaby #babymilestones #babytips
