If it feels like nobody takes menopause seriously, new data presented this week proves it. And it's even worse for some women. Researchers at Penn Medicine looked at 666,606 primary care and OB/GYN visits by women 45 to 60, the exact years most women go through perimenopause and menopause. Menopause was written down as a diagnosis at just 7.8% of those visits. Fewer than 1 in 12. Even when it was, 88% of women walked out with no hormone replacement therapy. Now look at who gets missed most. Compared with white women, Black women were about a third less likely to have menopause written down, and Asian and Hispanic women were less likely too. Compared with women with private insurance, uninsured women were about a third less likely, and women on Medicaid or Medicare about a quarter less likely. Your medical record is what the next doctor reads. It's what gets labs ordered and treatment started. If menopause never makes it in, it's easy for it to never get treated. So take control of your health and fight to be heard. It starts with knowing your symptoms. Comment HORMONES and I'll send you my free perimenopause checklist. Then find a doctor who is actually trained in perimenopause care, one who will test and track your estrogen, progesterone and testosterone over time. That's the care model I'm building at Nava: longer appointments, more diagnostics and outcomes we actually measure. Nava's discounted intake bundle is $249 through the link in bio. It includes 70+ labs, 1 hour with a medical provider and 1 hour with a licensed nutritionist. Our medical providers and licensed nutritionists have over 13 years of experience in hormones and root cause medicine. Source: Chesnokova A, Bayes B, Blady S, Hamm R.
