Diagnosed with vestibular migrane 3 years ago. Told my employer and have been fighting since for reasonable adjustments. People just think it’s a bad headache, they don’t understand all the other symptoms that come with it and how it can linger on for days.

I had a great boss. She would look at me and realise I was going to have a migraine before I knew it and would send me home no questions asked. She was always spot on and on the way home it would start. Although it was known I have migraines for some reason I had to have a meeting with my boss’s boss and put on a warning, and they apologised for that as it was meant to stop time wasters. I said I don’t choose to have these but the warning was irrelevant to my migraines and I would take time off again as I was driving between jobs at that time and trying to carry on was nigh on impossible and downright dangerous. Retired now and still get the odd spell of them so not time wasting, never was a time waster and never will!

At work they know about my migraines. I am able to work at home or in the office and can choose my work hours freely.

They know since I’ve asked for work (environmental) accommodations for it with a doctor’s memo to support my request. I wasn’t given any permanent accommodations. Almost given zero accommodations until I said to let me just speak directly to the director. I’ve considered that they thought I’m exaggerating or being dramatic since giving me a temporary accommodations (for about a month only) was framed as “for my comfort”. I responded to clarify that it’s for medical safety. 1.5 months after start of temporary accommodations I ended up in the hospital due to migraine and was given 2 weeks of hospitalisation leave. Guess if they didn’t believe its severity before, they now might 🤷🏻♀️”for comfort” 🙄

I was asked if there was anything they could do to make it easier and I said no, they followed up with "well is there anything you could do?"

I used to keep it private, but I also have focal seizures that I couldn't keep to myself any longer. Unfortunately I miss a lot of time. I try to make up for it evenings and weekends why I'm symptom free 😞 I feel helpless and hopeless most days.

I've been accused of faking so many times in the past (by bosses) that now every time i get hired somewhere, i tell them about my migraines and tell them i can give them a doctor note to prove i suffer from migraines and can even show them my medication if they need another proof🙄

🙌🏻 this! So hard to explain to people! I work in a primary school… i still turn up… it kills, but you can’t be off work all the time otherwise you wouldn’t have a job left, also have kids at home who need me, so hard 🥺

I hid my migraines from my boss, but they are getting more frequent and lasting longer so I have now made them aware after a week absence due to migraine.

I hadn't had any problems for several years, so I wasn't on any medication. I had an attack (with aura) during wound care (it smelled terrible). I was as white as a sheet and had to vomit several times. The boss just told me to go home He's taking over my shift.

I can't work because I can't see anything. And once I take my meds, I'm knocked out.
